Active Schools Week 2025 Day 4

Active Schools Week Day 4 marked the much anticipated arrival of the annual Teachers v Pupils challenge.  This year we decided to hold a number of doubles badminton matches between the teachers and 6th class.  After a number of closely fought games it was all square in the standings.  There was no other option but to hold a tie breaker! In the end the 6th class took the win much to the delight of the pupils who had done so well in creating an electric atmosphere!

To finish the day we were delighted to take delivery of our Active Schools Flag on successful completion of the 2 year programme.  Our ASF status will remain valid for 3 years.  In the interim years between flags schools with ASF status are asked to:

  • Prioritise a different PE strand for further development every year.
  • Participate in annual ASF initiatives including the ‘Active Break Every Day’ and ‘Run a Day’ challenges.
  • Active School Week
  • Promote the use of the Active School Walkway throughout the year.
  • Update the ASF section on the school website on a regular basis.

We look forward to meeting these challenges over the next number of years.

Thank you very much to Mr Hanly and Mr Hardiman for overseeing this worthwhile initiative.

Active Schools Week 2025 Day 2 & 3

Starting the day with a Joe Wicks interactive 5 minute movement break has once again proved to be a smash hit. Everyone having the opportunity to get up and get active first thing in the morning has been wonderful.

This year we’ve really tried to up our dancing skills. With a nod to variety being the spice of life and thanks to DJ Raphi on YouTube and his excellent and varied guided dance videos we’ve really enjoyed this leaning experience.
On day 2 we had a go at the much loved “Cotton eyed Joe” dance and then on day 3 we went for what proved to be everyone’s favourite the “cha cha slide”.

Next up was our whole school of pass the ball challenge which saw every pupil get a chance to throw and catch a ball as well tried to get around the whole yard with no drops. In the end we counted just 10 drops which wasn’t bad for nearly 120 pupils. Well done everyone.

After making use of our active school walkway and our wonderful community pitch walkway in the afternoons, we rounded off each day with another mindfulness activity taken from the superb “My wellbeing diary” book by Folens.

We were delighted to welcome Mary Hough on Day 3 of our Active School Week, where she met with the Active Schools Committee and saw firsthand the fantastic work being done in promoting physical activity in our school. Mary will be in touch soon to let us know the outcome of our Active School Flag application — fingers crossed!

Active Schools Week 2025 Day 1

For the first day of Active Schools Week each class started the day with a Joe Wicks interactive workout

They then had a go at standing desks to ensure nobody would be getting too relaxed sitting down.

After break they took part in a guided dance activity to the song Waka Waka by Shakira and also a class throwing and catching game/challenge. Ms Keaveney’s class took the win with a flawless round scoring zero drops earning themselves a full 10 minutes extra of break time.

Each class rounded out the day with a walk around the pitch and finally a guided mindfulness session from the My Wellbeing diary book.

Well done to all on a great first day!
